Lucky #11

I'm 30 years old and I've lived in 11 homes. That seems a bit excessive, don't you think? We moved 2 weeks ago and for those of you who don't know why, just refer back to my past post. If I recap the whole situation again, I might just throw up. footinmymouth.blogspot.com/2010/01/conversations-with-wells-fargo.html

Let me tell you, I deserve a stinkin' medal for moving with two kids in tow and on Mother's day weekend, mind you. Instead of the complete relaxation and pampering that I so desired, I was treated to the never ending task of unpacking the unbelievable amount of things we've accumulated in 8 years. I mean, yikes! When we got married, we had nothing. 8 years and two kids later, you better believe there's a yard sale in our near future.

Even though we moved under not-so-fantastic circumstances, we're thrilled with where we've ended up. And I don't even want to say that out loud, for fear that it will all just POOF! Disappear. Long story short, or at least I'll try, we're in a 5 bedroom house with a pool, huge yards, and lovely neighbors who've all lived on this street for over 40 years.

We came to look at this house a month ago and couldn't believe what they were asking for it. It was hundreds of dollars cheaper and ten times nicer than anything we had seen. People were offering the landlady (the original owner who paid it off already)$500 over what she was asking, but we filled out an application anyway. Truth be told, I not only filled out the application but wrote a letter on the back of it explaining how much this house would be perfect for my family and how we'd take great care of it. I have no shame people. It was go time and I was a little uneasy about where we'd end up. And I'm glad I poured my little heart into that letter because here we are. We even asked if we could rent to own, and it might be a possibility. So for the meantime, we're all happy here and things are good.

As far as the other house goes, we're in a short sale. I don't feel ashamed saying that anymore because it's way more common than I originally thought. There was no way to foresee how this crappy market would end up. Seems like everyone I've talked to lately is doing a short sale or foreclosing. If you would have told me 2 years ago that I'd lose my brand spankin-new house, I would have broken down into tears. Fits. Sobs. It would have been very dramatic in true Nikki fashion. But I didn't. Wes and I came to a decision that was best for our family, and that has brought us a lot of peace. Our credit will survive. It wasn't the house of our dreams anyway; it was more of a transition home. We decided not to let it get us down, effect our marriage, or cause us stress. It's just not worth it. In the end, we have a wonderful home to live in, two gorgeous and healthy girls, secure jobs and American Idol on Tuesday nights. Who can complain about that?

Side Note:
Taylor, the girl who hates change, is totally fine. She barely batted an eye though she does miss her neighbors, Joseph, Johny-boy and Alena. Other than that, her room's been painted pink and decorated with Tinkerbell stickers like her old room and she's been promised a dog in the near future. Corinne is happy too and seems a little afraid of our new staircase, which is just fine with me.

Day At The Races

On Sunday, I spent the day like any other good Christian woman would...At the race track screaming, "Go Peanut Butter Boy! Move! Move!" It was a beautiful day for watching the horse races, enjoying Mother's Day with my family and celebrating my Grandpa's 80th birthday. My aunt reserved a few tables up in the clubhouse, and we spent the day eating, talking, laughing, and throwing our money away on bets that didn't pan out for most of us. Our failure to strike it rich at the track might have had something to do with the highly scientific, but all too ineffective way we placed our bets. Mainly, we bet on a horse if we liked his name. For example, my aunt bet on horses named after dead relatives hoping their spirits would be flattered and they'd throw us a bone from the after life. No such luck. I bet on horses with catchy names like Dangerous Curves, because after all, that's what I have. LOL Taylor placed bets based on whatever number her finger landed on. (Yes, I let me 3 year old bet at a horse race. Don't judge me.) Even though we didn't walk away winners monetarily speaking, we all left with some great memories. More than anything, it was lovely as always being with my Grandpa. Wes made the comment on the way home that the best part of the day was sitting and chatting with him. We love him so much and are so glad we got to celebrate with him this weekend.

Pondering his next bet.

Thanks for the $20, Dad. I'm too cheap to bet my own money.

Corinne thought it was a big dog.

We went down on the track during the 6th race and watched from close up. We we're even on the jumbo tron. Superstars!
Too much diet coke makes me loopy.
