The "F" Word

Get your mind out of the gutter! I'm talking about the flu.

On Monday, Wes was feverish and barfing until all hours of the night. I wasn't too concerned, because we both thought it was just food poisoning. After all, he bought food from the $1 store the previous day. I mean, really. That's just nasty. And it wasn't like he bought something generic and safe; he bought something called "Mexican Mango Juice." I told him he was just asking for food poisoning, or some crazy Mexican plague. So of course on Tuesday I repeatedly said, "I told you so," and forgot about it.

Fast forward to Thursday. Taylor and I went to the zoo with our friend Ashley and her cute little girl, (This little girl has the best eyelashes. I think Ashley puts falsies on her.) After Taylor ate lunch, she projectile vomits all over the place infront of everyone in the eating area. Lovely.

So I clean her up, and assume she barfed because she had been spinning around. Only to realize when we get home, she has a 103.5 fever. My poor baby has been miserable ever since. She woke up this morning saying, "Hot. Hot. Juice. Juice." She's never had more than a cold, so this has been awful for me. It's the pits seeing your child sick. Her doctor said this year's been the absolute worst flu season she's ever seen, and the flu shot is useless. We've been lounging around the house, watching every Baby Einstein we own. If she's sick, she gets whatever she wants. That's kind of my rule for survival at this point.

Hopefully she'll feel better tomorrow. Just as a side note, stay away from the Elephant exhibit at the LA Zoo. I don't want to go into details, so I'll just say this. It's spring, and I'll never look at elephants in the same way.

I still wouldn't drink or eat anything from the $1 store.

Things I Love & Hate

LOVES:
1.) Taylor's laugh: Wes and I've decided it's the best sound ever, and we're lucky to have such a giggly girl. She laughs at everything lately. Thomas the Train, Mommy hiccuping, Daddy chasing her, and "Green Eggs & Ham." (See video footage of her laughing at 8 months.)
2.) Kickboxing: I'm just waiting for someone to try and mug me. I'll take em' down to China Town. Not many people know this, but I take a Cardio Kickboxing class every Saturday morning. I love that last week I was working so hard, I had to stop and mop up my own sweat so I wouldn't slip! It was awesome. I love leaving with my hair completely messy and wet, and my cheeks flushed with all sorts of reds and pinks.
3.) Conquering My Fears: I sang in sacrament yesterday, and it was fantastic. Hands down, the best I've ever sang. I'm a little hung up on the "Attractor Factor" book I've been reading, and how to be a positive thinker. And it actually worked! I just kept telling myself, "Wow. I love to sing in public. It's so fun. I'm so good at it." And it worked. Crazy? Check out the book for yourself. I'm finding it useful.
HATES:
1.) Chin Hair: AHHHH! I could spend all day plucking my facial hair! What is up? And when I go outside, and the sun hits my face, I look like big foot. I've even stopped trying to hide my impulse to pluck from Wes. I was trying to "keep the magic alive," by plucking privately. But now the little suckers are popping up like weeds, and I can't control myself. They must be plucked ASAP!
2.) Colds: We've all been sick in my family at least twice since the year began. It's the cold/flu that won't leave and stay gone. I can't wait until Spring.
3.) People Who Wear Sunglasses Inside: Just stop it. Please. It's not bright inside, that's why it's called "inside." I've seen a few people do this lately, and on days when the sun isn't even out, outside! It'll be raining, and some moron will be in Target with his sunglasses on. I'm easily annoyed, I know.

Stage Fright

I was asked to sing in our church sacrament meeting this coming Sunday. Writing that sentence just made my stomach do a belly flop. Here's the deal. I love to sing. I grew up doing musical theater, and almost always had lead roles. I never felt nervous or jittery. But there's just something about singing in sacrament that makes me want to puke. I've done it once before, and I think it scarred me for life. I barely had time to practice, threw something together, and was absolutely horrible. I had an excess of saliva while I was singing, and my knees were literally shaking. I ran to the bathroom and threw up when it was over. For some reason, singing alone, in plain view, infront of a church audience, is SO intimidating. Yet, I'm doing it again. Maybe Heavenly Father is trying to give me a second chance, so I can erase the old memory and replace it with a new one. Like my last entry stated, I'm taking on a new POSITIVE attitude. This will be the most amazing sacrament performance ever! ......Or, maybe I just won't barf this time.

It looks as if I won't need to worry about Taylor ever having stage fright.

The Law of Attraction

The universe apparently wants me to know something. By chance, I've come across two books in the past month. "The Secret," and "The Laws of Attraction." Both books have the same message. Whatever your reality is at the moment, you've created it. If you're poor, it's your fault. If you're rich, it's your fault. Sick, dumb, smart, attractive, missing a limb......your fault, your fault, your fault, your fault. The idea is that we're all made of energy, be it good or bad energy, and we send that energy out into the "universe," through our thoughts and actions. If we have a positive outlook and expect great things to happen to us, they will. But you have to believe with all your might, mind and soul, that what you want will find you. If you want to be a millionare, you're encouraged to write your goal down and feel excited everday that a million dollars is coming your way, even if you don't know how you'll make it. You have to be clear about your beliefs, and avoid ever feeling doubtful or pesimistic. These books basically guarantee that you'll get whatever you want, and that the universe will send opportunities your way.

I'm an optimist, and I want to believe that this is all true. I'm following the steps in the book faithfully. I'm writing down my goals, clearing out my negativity, and expecting good things to happen to me. I'm picturing my dreams coming true everday, and trying to feel the excitement I'll really feel when they come to fruition. My husband thinks I'm loony but he's wrong, and I'm going to prove it eventually. But right now I can't let my good "energy" be disturbed by his bad karma. And my goals aren't entirely grand either. Right now, one of my goals is to have friends. It's a sad fact, but I have none. It doesn't actually bother me at all, except that Taylor is growing up and she needs to be social. If I don't have friends, it makes it harder for her to make friends. So I'm sending the universe my positive expectation that I will soon have wonderful, genuine, and fun friends. I can see it in my head. We'll go shopping with our kids together, have bunco parties, go to the park and most importantly, Taylor will feel that she has friends. See? It's not like I'm asking for a million dollars. I'm starting small.

The one thing these books have opened my eyes to is the fact that I deserve to have good things happen to me. I don't think I've ever felt that before. That type of thought always seemed arrogant to me, but not now. I'm a good person. I'm a great wife, mother and friend. Good things SHOULD happen to me, so now I'm going to sit back and enjoy the good things that our bound to happen in my life.

Bye Space, Hello Blog

I ditched My Space in order to start this blog. Well, that's not entirely true. I've been toying with the idea of leaving "The Space", as the cool kids call it, because it's a little too impersonal for my taste. I was also a little annoyed with my "friends" (pardon the multiple use of quotes in the entry), who started posting pictures and comments that were of poor taste. I have students who've found my page, and that was the kicker. Just as a rule from now on, I promise not to participate in sites that are mainly popular with pre-pubesants. It doesn't say much about my maturity. So, here I am blogging world! Nikki in all her glory!
