Bah, Humbug!

This song was written around 1959.....and nothing's changed. This is sort of how I'm feeling about Christmas today. Hopefully I'll feel the Christmas spirit soon. But in the meantime, enjoy some Tom Lehrer. Possibly one of my favorite song writers of all time.

Not Tom Lehrer, but Paul Williams. I hang with famous songwriters between play dates. The reason I look like a geek in this picture, is because I geeked out a bit when I met him. He wrote "Rainbow Connection" and was on "Yo! Gabba Gabba!" Nuff said.

Totally unrelated to this post, but I had to post these pictures of my gorgeous kidlet and my beautiful friend, Stephanie. Two weddings in two months. Phew!

It's A Boy!

There are two conversations in my house that I've been avoiding like the plague. The first being the "Are We Going To Have A Third Child" discussion. Normally I can shut this conversation down quickly by reminding Wes of a few things that go along with that third little bundle of joy, such as sleepless nights, colic and the cost of diapers. And then I distract him with something like, "Look, honey! The Laker game's on. Can I get you a drink?" Conversation over. Nikki-1 Wes-0

But the second discussion I've been avoiding is the "Let's Get A Dog" talk. Don't get me wrong. I grew up with dogs and know the love they can bring to a family. However, I can remember the whole puppy phase resembling the first few months with a newborn. Maybe the first day or two it's super mellow and sleeps all the time. And like an ignorant new mother you rave to everyone how easy it is and what a good baby you have. And then it snaps out of it's newborn coma and turns into a colicy, poop machine. Well, no thank you. I have enough poop to clean up as it is with Corinne.....But I sort of changed my tune when Scout died. Wes' family dog was put down a few days after his birthday and I saw how sad my husband was. When he brought up the subject of getting a dog again, I couldn't really say no. And since all Wes ever really asks for is for his girls to be happy and an occasional edible meal on the table, I guess it's not too much to ask that we add a dog to the mix.

So Zero Pollard joined our family yesterday. He's a yellow lab with blue eyes, and he's won us over. Taylor is especially fond of him, and would sleep in his bed with him if we'd let her. She's very good with him and can't wait until he can do tricks.

Corinne....well, she's sort of a brute. We've had to let her know a few times that she can't pull his ears or tail. She's a little jealous of Zero and starts to act like a puppy when we give him attention.

Wes has enrolled with Zero in some training classes at the pet store because after one day he's already growing tired of cleaning up poop off the carpet and waking up at 4 to a crying baby...uh, puppy. At least he doesn't have to nurse it, that's all I gotta say.

The Diva's Lament

Disclaimer: The picture above is from 2 years ago. I am NOT, I repeat, NOT pregnant. I just wanted to get that out there before the emails pour in from friends and family. =) The turkey-size tummy is Corinne, about 1 month before her arrival.

Taylor had her very first public speaking experience on Sunday in our church's primary program. I'll tell you honestly, I was nervous. Because with Taylor and most 4 year-olds, a situation like this in front of an audience can either be adorable and memorable, or turn into a cry fest. Thankfully, Taylor got up to the microphone and said her part loud and clear without any assistance from her teacher who was standing by to feed the kids their lines. My mom and I did a little dance and a knuckle bump, while Daddy sat looking very proud of his little girl. After her line, she came down to sit with us and started crying. I felt awful. I thought maybe she was cracking under all the pressure, or had gotten scared once she realized how many people had been watching her. But when I asked her what was wrong she replied, "I didn't get to sing." This puzzled me, because she actually did sing with the rest of the kids as a choir. She said, "No! I didn't get to sing by myself!".....All I could do was shake my head and laugh at my little diva. For a week I've been telling her that she gets to sing all of her primary songs in front of the church. I had no idea she thought she'd be doing it alone. I love the way her little mind works.
