There are two conversations in my house that I've been avoiding like the plague. The first being the "Are We Going To Have A Third Child" discussion. Normally I can shut this conversation down quickly by reminding Wes of a few things that go along with that third little bundle of joy, such as sleepless nights, colic and the cost of diapers. And then I distract him with something like, "Look, honey! The Laker game's on. Can I get you a drink?" Conversation over. Nikki-1 Wes-0But the second discussion I've been avoiding is the "Let's Get A Dog" talk. Don't get me wrong. I grew up with dogs and know the love they can bring to a family. However, I can remember the whole puppy phase resembling the first few months with a newborn. Maybe the first day or two it's super mellow and sleeps all the time. And like an ignorant new mother you rave to everyone how easy it is and what a good baby you have. And then it snaps out of it's newborn coma and turns into a colicy, poop machine. Well, no thank you. I have enough poop to clean up as it is with Corinne.....But I sort of changed my tune when Scout died. Wes' family dog was put down a few days after his birthday and I saw how sad my husband was. When he brought up the subject of getting a dog again, I couldn't really say no. And since all Wes ever really asks for is for his girls to be happy and an occasional edible meal on the table, I guess it's not too much to ask that we add a dog to the mix.
So Zero Pollard joined our family yesterday. He's a yellow lab with blue eyes, and he's won us over. Taylor is especially fond of him, and would sleep in his bed with him if we'd let her. She's very good with him and can't wait until he can do tricks.
Corinne....well, she's sort of a brute. We've had to let her know a few times that she can't pull his ears or tail. She's a little jealous of Zero and starts to act like a puppy when we give him attention.
Wes has enrolled with Zero in some training classes at the pet store because after one day he's already growing tired of cleaning up poop off the carpet and waking up at 4 to a crying baby...uh, puppy. At least he doesn't have to nurse it, that's all I gotta say.

Haha I love this post - your one liners are brilliant :)
More proof of what I already knew, you're a better woman than me. Glad the girls get to experience puppy love though. I'm sure it'll be worth every smelly poop and whimper.
I love our dogs, they put such unconditional joy into our house. The puppy stage goes by as quick as the baby stage of our children go. The only thing I ever had to worry about with our dogs and not our boys... thankfully was, hiding my shoes. I lost three pair this time around with Riley. Zero is very cute and I am sure will the love your pool when it gets warm again. Fun Fun Fun. :)
Ha! I almost want to buy a dog now just so I can name it zero.
Congratulations!! Im glad Wes has night duty.
Oh, the conversation for #3...the hardest decision we've ever made. Good luck with that AND the new dog. Super cute photos.
