Pea Shelling Time

I read somewhere that women used to enjoy something called pea-shelling time. This was WAY back in the day when you couldn't just run to Ralph's and buy a can of peas. (I would not have lasted a day in that era.)

Women would bring their peas to someone's home and they'd sit around, de-shelling peas while their kids ran around. This sounds like a snooze fest to the rest of us, but it was the original girl's night out! Chances are, this was the one time during the week these women had a chance to sit down at all.

They'd do whatever you do to deshell peas- and they'd talk. Probably about the same stuff girls talk about now-a-days. About their husbands, kids, in-laws, bodies...I'm sure it was a bit different, but I think the overall vibe and camaraderie was probably much like it is when I hang out with my girlfriends now.

And I'm so thankful for my girlfriends and the recent pea-shelling time I've had with them, minus the peas. What would I do without them? There have been days when I've felt down and out or just plain tired, and all it takes is a little girl talk while the kids play at the park to recharge my batteries. I admire all of them for different reason. They're funny, smart, compassionate...and in comparison to some of my girlfriends, I'm not so weird. =)

I'm pretty lucky.

Palm Springs weekend was awesome, and Wes earned 1 million husband points for a.) renting me a car for the weekend b.) Taking Taylor to her first ever soccer practice c.) Taking the kids to Magic Mountain and d.) Not calling me once. I actually had to call him to check up on things. I owe him, big time. And for those who are wondering what I did in those 48 glorious hours...nothing. Well, not NOTHING nothing. I just did whatever I felt like. Ihung around by the pool, got in the pool, out of the pool, back in the pool....ate something, took a nap, chatted with the girls. It was heavenly. I won't lie. I wasn't ready to leave one bit.

Karaoke- Be amazed at our pristine vocals and sassy choreography!

Had a bow making party with some girlfriends and I made these little clips. No pictures of those actual girlfriends (though I love them dearly.) Maybe next time. Corinne and Tay are pretty cute, though.

I like how you started out reserved in your performance and then slowly let go :) Good times. And hello, getting in the pool, then out, then back in, sounds like heaven to me. And on your OWN terms!! And some "girlfriends" huh, maybe you just made bows by yourself?? :)

Hey Nikki, I tried to activate my fb account to send you a message, but it won't let me, and I don't have your email address, so I'm leaving this comment full of movie ideas and I hope you see it! Two ideas that I haven't done yet but I want to do are make Turkish Delight for "The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe" and make Butter Beer for the first Harry Potter movie (are my kids old enough for that one? I dunno.) A big hit with FMN was watching a Christmas movie in July and making Christmas cookies - so fun! I think we watched Elf. Spaghetti is a fun meal to go with Lady and the Tramp. Snack on goldfish while watching Finding Nemo. Watch Rudy or Remember the Titans and have football foods (read: chips and dip!) Set up Pizza Planet decorations and have pizza (of course!) for Toy Story. Oh, and a simple idea for Dumbo are circus animal cookies (the frosted ones, of course.) What a fun article! How did you get this gig anyway? So cool. My email is mrsmbm@gmail if you need to contact me!
